Alan Shepard and Derry Flight mural

2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 14 moon landing mission. Captained by Alan Shepard Jr. Of Derry NH. The town of Derry wanted to commemorate this remarkable feat with a mural. After learning about the lively aviation community in Derry at the time of Shepard’s youth, I thought the mural should include that history as well as depict the larger context in which the moon missions occurred.
Working with the town, the Derry Historic Commission, the Derry Public Library and many individual volunteer researchers, a timeline was produced and storyboarded. The 400’ painting happened in the summer of 2021 and has become a wonderful attraction along the Derry Rail Trail bike path.
